When should a lifting sling be replaced?

Inspect the lifting sling before use. Take it out of service if you notice any of the following:

• cuts, holes or tears;
• excessive wear or fraying;
• damaged or loose stitching;
• damaged eyes;
• heat, melting or welding damage;
• chemical damage;
• knots or severe deformation;
• a missing or unreadable label.

For round slings, pay particular attention to damage to the protective sleeve. If the load-bearing fibres are visible or may be damaged, the sling should no longer be used.

Be careful with sharp edges

Sharp metal edges can quickly damage a lifting sling. Always use suitable edge or cut protection when the sling comes into contact with sharp or rough surfaces.
